Can Floatation Treat Neurological Disorders?

The central nervous system is vastly complex. It controls all of the body’s senses and movements, as well as our capacity for forming and analyzing thoughts. Because the neurological system is so intricate, finding effective treatments for neurological disorders can be challenging.

Many neurological system disorders cause chronic pain and other symptoms that negatively impact a person’s quality of life. While some of these conditions aren’t permanently curable, there are treatments available that can improve daily functions. Floatation has the potential to alleviate uncomfortable symptoms and is an effective component of a neurological disorder treatment plan.

What Are Neurological Disorders?

Neurological disorders are conditions that affect components of the central nervous system: the brain, the spine, and the network of nerves that link them. The nervous system is complex, and it affects every part of the body. Hence, neurological disorders and injuries that affect the nervous system can impact the entire body. There are many different kinds of disorders, and various levels of severity in the symptoms experienced.

Who Can Benefit From Floatation Therapy?

Floatation therapy can help people suffering from many neurological disorders in several different ways. Research supports the use of flotation therapy for specific neurological conditions, such as:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Memory disorders
  • Migraines
  • Chronic pain conditions

Reduce Stress and Anxiety

Stress significantly increases the severity and frequency of MS flare-ups. Floatation decreases stress and anxiety by removing unnecessary stimulation, decreasing the stress hormone cortisol and allowing the brain to rest. Lowering stress levels through floatation therapy can therefore significantly reduce the severity of MS symptoms.

Reducing stress and anxiety aids in the treatment of memory disorders and migraines. Stress is one of the most commonly cited triggers for migraines, and it exacerbates memory problems. Floatation also helps treat stiff and sore muscles, which are a common complaint for MS patients. Epsom salts are added to the water to further encourage stiff muscles to loosen and relax.

Relieve Pain

Many neurological conditions, including migraines, come with crippling chronic pains. Floatation helps reduce many types of pain. During floatation, floaters experience a state of weightlessness. This removes stress from the back and joints, and loosens tight and achy muscles. The result is an improvement in chronic pain.

Floatation also releases endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers. If you or someone you love is struggling with pain and discomfort caused by a neurological condition, contact Norwest Float Center today to try floatation.

Wow, I have never heard of using flotation therapy for curing neurological disorders! I bet this is a huge advance in modern medicine because it will help us determine what causes these disorders better. My aunt has MS, and we have been looking for a therapy that will work for her for years. Maybe we will look into trying this flotation therapy out and see if it does anything for her.
