With all of the pressures and expectations that come with the holiday season, it’s easy to experience high levels of stress as Christmas approaches. In order to enjoy this season, you have to find a way to successfully manage that stress. By considering a few comprehensive strategies for the holiday season, you can work out a strategy that will allow you to enjoy every minute of the season without becoming overwhelmed with stress.

Develop a Plan

Making a reasonable, well-thought-out plan is the first step towards taking control of your stress levels during this season. At the beginning of the holidays, it’s smart to figure out a general plan so that you are prepared to take advantage of times that you have to shop, bake cookies, or attend Christmas parties.

However, you can create a plan for each day as well. At the beginning of each day, make a list of the tasks that need to be taken care of that day. If there is too much on your plate for that day, you can prioritize your list and identify which tasks are most important so that you aren’t overwhelmed with feelings of stress throughout the day.

Make Sure You Have Realistic Expectations

One of the primary reasons that people experience stress during this time of the year is that they have unrealistic expectations. These expectations might be related to your own ability to get through long to-do lists, but they might also be connected to what you expect to get out of your time with family and friends.

In order to avoid the stress that comes with disappointed expectations, think through your expectations honestly and figure out which ones are probably unreasonable. Adjust those expectations so that you aren’t disappointed when they don’t pan out. Focus on creating expectations that can reasonably be fulfilled.

Schedule Time to Workout and Relax

Throughout this season, it can be difficult to maintain your regular routine, which often means that your time for yourself disappears.
